Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills (BICS) consists of the language skills that allow people to communicate in everyday social contexts. This type of communication takes place in the home, on the phone, at the dinner table or in the cafeteria at school, on the playground, and via basic communication with family or friends. Due to the high volume of feedback that an individual receives while participating in this form of communication with friends and family a person develops basic interpersonal communication skills within six months to two years.2
